There’s virtually a party tonight
I’m going to my first SL party, at the Chindogu theater at 7 SLT. Of course, I don’t get off work in RL till 8 SLT so I’ll be fasionably late (and for those of you who haven’t heard this joke yet- that’s the only fashionable thing about me.) I won’t have time to change my clothes so I’ll be there in my ultra-cool plaid shoes, khakis and t-shirt.
I’ve joined about a dozen “groups”, matchmakers, street performers, I even joined something that looked like AA for avatars. I thought they could be interesting but I haven’t heard much from the groups and I haven’t met anyone yet.
I’ve had more luck meeting people through plurk (hello plurkies!) I think I need to invest a little more time into SL. As it is, I go in world, look around, get bored and log off. I’m a photographer in RL so I think I’m going to try to take some photographs and meet people who might be interested in modeling for me.
I’ll let you know how the party goes, check it out for yourself if you don’t trust my taste! And tomorrow I’ll dive into some RL drama! How did you get started in SL? What are your fall-backs for having a good time?

The thing with SL is it’s really open-ended, you truly have to make of it what you will. I went through a period when I was bored too. Logged in and had no clue what to do, where to go. Still happens to me occasionally.
SL is very different from RL in the sense that RL is a lot more structured – even if you have a day off from work and don’t know how to spend all that extra time, there are certain things in RL that still *need* to be done. But in SL… you can truly be completely aimless and directionless.
I used to spend my time in SL shopping or collecting freebies, but that got boring. I’ve started building a little and I IM people on my friends list regularly to keep in touch. It’s a bit weird though coz I could spend the whole afternoon in my SL garden just IMing people. I don’t really explore sims and stuff unless there’s someone to do it with – I don’t enjoy doing that alone. Haven’t attended many events, not really a party or clubbing type of person… plus the time zone thing is a pain, when I go, places are mostly empty lol.
Good point, Quaintly. I am going to start building (and filling) my house soon. Then I’ll have to show it off. I think I might also start a group (no sense in complaining about stagnant groups.) So may be you’ll change your mind about parties and join us for a b sci-fi movie next time at Chindogu.
